What is M+Power?

M+Power is an opportunity for short-term, cross-cultural volunteer service in the Eurasia Region of the Church of the Nazarene Global Missions.

About Church of the Nazarene

People can serve between 3 months and 2 years and help in a real need, and than return to their home country to share about what God is and has been doing cross culturally. We are God’s ambassadors!

We believe that God calls His people into cross-cultural mission from every nation, culture and language, from every age group, every economic status, and every educational level. Jesus says in John 20: 21

‘As the Father has sent me, even so I’m sending you’

The model of missions that we see in the life of Jesus, is Jesus coming down from heaven to us, in order to show who God is. We are God’s ambassadors!

M+Power is a pathway that the Eurasia Region created for Nazarene believers from the nations and cultures of Eurasia to answer God’s calling. Through M+Power, people sensing a call to service may seek training, assessment and possible deployment to another part of their culture or to another nation.

We expect people to serve between 3 months and 2 years, and then return to their home culture to tell stories of how God is and has been working.

Service locations and opportunities are varied in Europe and Asia, and may include coffeehouse ministry, youth/children’s ministries, finance work, pioneering, teaching English or education.

How does M+Power work?

Your responsibility

First, the candidate attends a Eurasia Mission Orientation training event. There he or she will be connected with a mentor, who will be there to support the candidate in the process of moving forward.

If, after participating in a training event, someone would like to serve cross culturally, next he or she will apply on the website and provide references.

Candidates also must read the book, Cross-Cultural Servanthood, by Duane Elmer.

M+Power volunteer missionaries raise their own financial and prayer support. This includes funds to cover travel costs, food, and possibly housing. We will try to work with similar economies, so that it will be possible for many people to go through the experience of serving cross culturally.

Once at their place of assignment, M+Power volunteers are expected to respectfully follow the direction of local and national leadership of the receiving culture, learn the local language, make efforts to adapt to and understand the new culture, communicate regularly and honestly with the assigned mentor and coach, as well as continue fundraising or prayer support as needed.

The Church of the Nazarene Eurasia’s responsibility

M+Power values

Why would a local church or a district send a few of its best leaders to another area for a period of time?

Why would someone invest time, money, and energy in becoming a volunteer?

Why evangelize in another area, when there are so few Christians where we live?

The answer is simple: Love.

For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son (John 3:16)

As recipients of this gracious and sacrificial love, we are compelled to send out emissaries to those who still do not know God’s grace and love; and we are compelled to leave our homes, our families and loved ones, our jobs, our cultural advantages, the familiarity of customs and language, to be God’s emissaries to people in other areas and cultures who have not heard about Jesus.

God’s call to send and to go is not only for those in the West, or for affluent nations, churches or people, nor is it restricted to people of certain ethnicities. God calls the church everywhere to send people from every race, gender, age, economic class and educational status.

Sometimes, however, at first glance the path seems easier and straighter for those with more affluence. M+Power was designed to give equal opportunity for churches to send and for people to go, whenever and wherever God is calling.

Sometimes, churches in cultures that have received missionaries for many generations may not be aware that they are called by God to be sending churches, too.

Local churches display spiritual maturity when they recognize God calls them to send workers into the harvest, especially to other nations and people groups.

Through M+Power, we challenge every church to examine how God is calling them as a local congregation to send, and whether there is anyone within their congregation or district whom God is calling to go.

Our God is a multicultural God. Every culture reflects something unique of what it means to be the bride of Christ. So it is together with all the saints that we can begin to understand:

…how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that we may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 4: 18b-19)
